CYNDI BRIGGS

WINNER

Cyndi Briggs has a creative background stretching back to childhood, including photography prizes in primary school. She went on to specialise in creating couture bridal gowns, winning awards and landing magazine covers along the way.
After recently completing an Advanced Diploma of Photography (Art major), Briggs discovered a fascination for making props and sets, playing with image manipulation and compositing elements to make something new, quite often with a hint of humour or absurdity.

JUDGES’ COMMENTS

“There was, in many portfolios, the lack of a cohesive body of work. Some individuals had two or three great images in their selection, but others in the series let them down.”

“I am always looking for an individual approach to a series of images. A distinctive style or an emotion is what appeals to my eye. Also, a series that has a flow, that is a beginning and an end, one that I can look at and clearly see that the same photographer has shot it.”

“In terms of some portfolios, it’s hard to know why some images where included as they seemed like fillers. Make sure you stand back and look at the bigger picture.”

KIRILEE BROWN

RUNNER-UP

Kirilee Brown developed an interest in film photography at high school, spending her spare time developing her knowledge of processing. Since finishing school, Brown has completed both a Certificate IV and Diploma in Photoimaging at Ultimo TAFE. During this period, she became a freelance photographer, accepting assignments which have allowed her to further her professional development. She is yet to decide on a particular field of photography in which to specialise, concentrating instead on developing an individual style.
