ED SLOANE

WINNER

Ed Sloane is a freelance photographer with a focus on the surf and ocean-based aesthetic. His work is best described as a mix of action and art, and has featured in advertising and editorial throughout Australia and internationally.
His artistic, yet systematic approach to the photographic process stems from a prior career in environmental science. Former pursuits in this field have had great influence over his perspective, knowledge, and ultimately, creative vision, as he blends a critical approach with aesthetically-driven work.

JUDGES’ COMMENTS

“When putting together any portfolio, each picture has to stand on its own; each picture has to have impact, a ‘wow’ factor. All the images must work together harmoniously as a set of images, and be ordered and edited so the portfolio has a flow and impact as a whole.”

“The use of erratic and heavy toning/Photoshop techniques really was noticeable on some images and brought down otherwise good portfolios.”

“Be consistent in your editing when presenting a folio. Try to keep the same crop size for all images so there is flow to the work.”
