JUDGES’ COMMENTS

“The key to good, relevant fashion photography is rarely what you put in the shot, but more what you decide to leave out. The majority of the portfolios in the fashion category were trying to put too much in.”

“Great fashion photography is a glimpse into our culture of the time; being able to create a narrative in your work that takes the viewer beyond the obvious is what I think makes your images stand out from others.”

“Some entrants needed to focus more on content vs. bokeh. Shooting wide apertures can be a useful technique, and other times it can be over-used and destroy important background information that’s relevant to the subject, especially for environmental portraiture.”

RUNNER-UP

Melbourne-based fashion and commercial photographer, Ren Pidgeon has been making a name for himself with his clean and crisp style. Though a fan of perfection, Pidgeon also loves to purposely embrace imperfection. He constantly strives to perfect his craft, using what he has learnt from the Masters about lighting and composition, then adding what he knows about the newest technology with his own creativity.
