You know we were matched on a very special day by Emma Thomson

Emma Thomson

For this new body of work, Emma Thomson took to finding male models through online dating sites. After matching with a man, Thomson then started a conversation about whether they would like to have their portrait taken. A first date was organised and the expectations between photographer and subject were negotiated. The result is a set of portraits that investigates the use of image-based online interactive sites such as tinder, happn, instagram, and snapchat to see how these platforms thrive on responses from others. This new work challenges and reassesses the role, value, and significance of photography in today's context, and questions how the image can be defined in a world where the photograph has such a rich history, alongside strong political and social connotations.
