Michelle Dupont’s interest in photography started with her children. “I first picked up a camera after my last child, Ziggy, was born,” she says. “Inspired by a ‘365 project’ I discovered on Flickr, I began taking photos of him every day and I soon fell in love with the process of capturing his growth and milestones.”

Tasmanian-based, Dupont initially began sharing images on Flickr and her blog twoandsix. She developed a following on the Internet, which led to local enquiries for paid commissions. At the outset, her work was based around portrait and product photography, but eventually she received a request to shoot a wedding. “Weddings were not something I had ever considered,” she says, “but after that first one I knew this was my calling.” Dupont developed her technique with the support of a local wedding photographer. She was also inspired by the work of her brother-in-law, renowned photojournalist Stephen Dupont.

Wedding photography is a passion for Dupont. “I’m a hopeless romantic,” she says. “I invest a lot of time establishing a relationship with my couples, so on their wedding day they trust me.” Her style is relaxed and candid, with an emphasis on subtle guiding, rather than posing. “I create space for [couples] to truly connect with each other, not just pose. They share and express their love for each other in the most wonderful ways, and I’m privileged to be able to capture those magical moments.”

Whatever project Dupont engages in, she always has a story to tell through the use of images. “For me, it’s all about capturing the connection and telling their story,” she says.
