Ukraine born and raised, Andrew Rovenko has called Australia home for over 17 years. A job as a freelance magazine photographer early on and a variety of commercial assignments over the years provided skills and experience that became invaluable for Rovenko’s personal work. One such personal project, The Rocketgirl Chronicles, that was born during Melbourne’s sixth lockdown and shot on film, found critical acclaim and resonance around the world, with international coverage including in Vogue and Rolling Stone.

About the series - The Rocketgirl Chronicles
While the big world was shut down under the various restrictions, 4 year old Melbourne resident Mia Rovenko put on her home made space suit and went to discover many small worlds around us, using her imagination, learning and making stories. These film photographs are the family memories from our precious time together, that happened to be one of the silver linings of Melbourne's extended lockdown.
