Stefan Eberhard, Yerkala Mirning Women (PEOPLE 2026)

Auntie Dorcas Miller, Senior female Yerkala Mirning Elder, born at White Wells on the Nullarbor Plain, and two of her daughters, Rose Miller and Meegan Sparrow. Yerkala Mirning Country spans the Nullarbor and coastline of the Great Australian Bight, from near Fowlers Bay in South Australia to Point Culver in Western Australia. These portraits were taken in 2024 on a visit to Toolini Rockhole, a traditional water source near Madura Pass on the Nullarbor Plain, where the women painted their faces with white ochre.
