In the Wakihonjin Okuya, Tsumago, Japan, morning light pierces the latticed roof of this historic site, built from once-restricted hinoki cypress wood, catching the smoke and dust still rising from the irori hearth below. Here once walked figures of power and authority, yet also those seeking shelter when the world outside grew difficult. The air I now breathe was once theirs, centuries ago. I could only imagine. Time.
