Paul Evans, Ships’ Log : Berth ADL IH M (SINGLE SHOT 2025)

This work is a composite of 25 ship portraits taken over a period of several months at Birth ADL IH M on the Port River in Adelaide. Ships docking here deliver petroleum products to a storage facility. I used the app MarineTraffic to find out when a new ship had arrived. What really interested me about these ships is that they were all different - colour, name, Flag state, shape, and markings. The individual portraits have been edited and arranged to emphasise this - like a series of trading cards. I stopped documenting the ships’ log once a previously photographed vessel arrived. My approach has been to make this work decorative as well as informative. The frame is a separate photographic element taken from a large ornate mirror to complete the vintage maritime theme.
