Cate Reilly, Portraits from the Calle de las Siete Cruces, Quito, Ecuador. January 2026 (PEOPLE 2026)

Three street portraits taken on the Calle de las Siete Cruces – the Street of the Seven Crosses – in Quito’s UNESCO heritage-listed Centro Histórico. A tostados seller sits in a shop window opposite the Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús en Quito (the site of the fifth cross, if you’re walking north-south down the street). A dapperly dressed man sits on the steps of the Catedral Metropolitana de Quito, beside the pillar that carries the street’s third cross. A shoeshine man waits for customers in the first colonnade of the Hotel Plaza Grande, across the street from the Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción and the street’s second cross.
