Aimee Lipscombe, Our worst fears... (Portrait 2020)

Parenthood can joyful, but also terrifying. The goalposts are constantly changing and fear rather than logic often informs many of the decisions parents make. The ‘what ifs’ can be paralysing for some. These images are part of a series of 12. The series seeks to play more broadly on society’s fears surrounding children; to create tension, confusion and unease in the viewer. Drawing on the horror traditions of cinema and television, the images are isolating, unnerving and not fully explained. Each viewer will derive their own reading based on their personal experiences and anxieties and therefore the series narrative will be ever changing.
