Tonina Ryan, More Than A Few Good Men - Strong and Sweet (ART 2026)

This series aims to challenge and reframe traditional perceptions of masculinity. I wanted to portray the softer side of my male subject. Sometimes, men's expression is hampered by all the expectations placed on them. They are told to 'Be a man' -'Don't whine like a girl'. The world could be a better, more evolved place if men's self-expression were encouraged as the norm. I wanted to use classic poses of the male form in black and white to keep the images simple and classic, with a twist that suggests a softer, traditional male portrait.
