Louise Faulkner, In the Tween (Portrait 2020)

The tween years chart the move from childhood to adolescence. In my daughter, they manifest as a conflicting wanting: to make her own decisions but unable to choose; to look more mature but needing teddy’s textures and hugs; to be independent but never, never alone. Amidst all of this, in her conversation and gestures, are hints of the woman she will become. These portraits are an attempt to capture some of these tween-age moments and are part of an ongoing project of documenting my daughter entitled 'Her.'
