Thanh Vuong, In my garden the trees are changing (Student (2018))
'In my garden the trees are changing' is a project centered on male beauty and my desire and appreciation of it as a queer artist. In my images, I present homosexuality as natural, unassuming, and significant as the trees, grass and leaves. I create an imaginary Utopia drawn from personal fantasies of a lush garden lit by ethereal light, where men can love one another, free from social injustice, prejudice and judgement. In making this work, I also draw inspiration from and pay tribute to those queer artists who wove the first threads in the rich tapestry of homoerotic art, often against social conventions and the legal framework of their time.
