Nilmini De Silva, From Paddock to Plate (ART 2026)
We rarely think about where our food comes from. Last year I had the chance to photograph a wheat harvest in regional Australia. I learnt close up the role these community play in feeding people across the globe. Wheat harvested in Australia will become bread, cakes, and noodles in places as far-flung as Yemen, South Korea, China, and New Zealand. Few consumers will ever consider the labour, grit, timing, and financial risk behind the bowl of pho in front of them. I brought home some wheat from my harvest experience and created these images to demonstrate the ‘Paddock to Plate’ story.
