Matt Theophile, Eyes of Madagascar (ANIMALS 2026)
This collection captures three intimate moments from lemurs captured in the wild of Madagascar, each revealing a striking sense of familiarity between their lives and our own. From the inquisitive expression of a black-and-white ruffed lemur, to the tenderness of a ring-tailed lemur nursing her young, the cheeky pose of a Sanford’s brown lemur, these images highlight more than just species—they reveal personality. What stands out most are their expressions and eyes. There is an unmistakable anthropomorphic quality in the way they look back at us: curiosity, care, alertness, even something resembling contemplation. These photographs invite the viewer to pause and connect, and remind us of the shared emotional language that runs deep within the primate family.
