Luke Robinson, Election (Documentary/Photojournalism (ATEP 2017))

After almost fifty years of military rule in Myanmar the National League for Democracy, lead by Aung San Suu Kyi, won the historic 2015 election in a landslide victory. Instead of documenting polling centres, politicians and helicopters picking up ballot boxes I decided to photograph the people of Myanmar in Yangon, Bagan and Ngwe Saung before, during and after the election as the whole world watches intently. I witnessed children spruiking postcards in several languages at the tourist hot spot of Bagan, teenagers from Yangon flipping out at sunset at the over developed and under visited resort town of Ngwe Saung and the street vendors and construction workers in the congested market places and roads of Yangon.
