Mitchell Ransome, Buffers (DOCO 2023)
Buffers is a series of photographs that intends to interrogate the divided island of Cyprus. It looks to expose the tension but also mundane reality of the divided state and how life has as usual begun to coalesce around the instated infrastructure of division. The photographs were taken over a series of three research gathering trips to the island where we were given special access into the Buffer Zone, a space untouched since 1974 and crumbling from neglect. It was incredibly ominous and surreal experience.
