Taylor Aspinall, Architectures of Light (BLACK & WHITE 2026)
Architectures of Light explores the visual language of the contemporary city through contrast, repetition and perspective. Working in black and white, the series removes the distraction of colour, allowing architecture to be reduced to its essential elements — line, form, shadow and light. Buildings are reframed as abstract structures, where illumination reveals pattern and shadow defines space. Living with colour blindness informs this approach, shaping a way of seeing that prioritises tonal relationships and geometry over colour. Through this lens, the urban environment becomes a study of rhythm, scale and stillness. The work moves between abstraction and monumentality, revealing the quiet tension embedded within everyday architecture and the way light transforms the surfaces of the built environment.
