Janine Vince, Across a Life (ART 2026)

Across a Life is a staged portrait series that traces the emotional arc of becoming through the evolving form of a single botanical subject. Each image is approached as a human study rather than a floral one, using posture, gesture, and light to suggest character and presence. The work moves through vitality and visibility, before shifting toward composure and self-possession. As the sequence progresses, gravity enters the frame. In The Weight of Years and The Long Exhale, the subject bends but does not collapse; form softens, yet dignity remains intact. The series considers ageing not as decline but as accumulation — of experience, of resilience, of identity. Subtle variations in light and stance echo the roles we inhabit across time: the performer, the dreamer, the accomplished woman, the one who carries history, and the figure who finally rests without surrender. Across a life, we are shaped by time, but we are not erased by it. The work reflects on endurance and the quiet strength found in transition.
