Synology has introduced two new additions to its DiskStation lineup—the DS1825+ and DS1525+. Built for speed, durability and easy expansion, these systems are designed to handle the growing data needs for photographers and modern small to medium businesses.

Equipped with dual 2.5GbE ports for high-speed connectivity, both the DS1525+ and DS1825+ are designed to handle intensive workloads with ease. The DS1525+ offers a 10GbE upgrade path via the E10G22-T1-Mini module, while the DS1825+ includes a PCIe 3.0 slot compatible with 10GBASE-T or 10/25GbE SFP+/SFP28 network cards.

Two built-in M.2 slots enable SSD caching or even full-flash storage pools, ideal for boosting performance. In testing scenarios, the DS1825+ achieved sequential read/write speeds of up to 2,239 MB/s and 1,573 MB/s, respectively, while the DS1525+ hit nearly symmetrical read/write speeds of around 1,180 MB/s.

Designed with future growth in mind, both systems support expansion via up to two DX525 units, allowing users to scale up storage as needed. When fully expanded, the DS1525+ supports up to 300 TB of raw storage, and the DS1825+ can reach 360 TB.

These systems are built for reliability, operating within a tested drive compatibility framework and backed by over 7,000 hours of validation to ensure stable performance. Installation of DSM (DiskStation Manager) requires compatible hard drives, reinforcing long-term consistency and support.

Running on DSM, the DS1825+ and DS1525+ offer a versatile software suite tailored for business workloads. Synology Drive enables private cloud capabilities with seamless file syncing, while Active Backup Suite ensures data protection across platforms including Windows, Linux, Mac, VMs, and cloud services. For organisations requiring robust security, Surveillance Station adds scalable video management with real-time analytics.

Versatile Features for Business Workloads

Powered by Synology's DiskStation Manager (DSM), these systems offer versatile features to meet diverse business data management needs.

  • Synology Drive transforms the system into a private cloud, enabling cross-platform access and site-to-site syncing for distributed teams.

  • Active Backup Suite provides comprehensive protection for Windows, Linux, and MacOS devices, virtual machines, and cloud accounts, with flexible off-site backup options.

Both models will be available worldwide around mid-May, through Synology’s network of authorised resellers and partners. Australian pricing has yet to be confirmed, but for reference, the previous models—the DS1823XS+ and DS1522+ currently retail for approximately $3,200 and $1,300 respectively (discs not included).
