As Sydney Contemporary celebrates its milestone 10th edition at Carriageworks from 3–6 September 2026, one of its most anticipated highlights is the return of Photo Sydney – a dedicated sector elevating fine art photography.
First launched in 2025 under the guidance of photographer and former Stills Gallery director Sandy Edwards, Photo Sydney operates as a curated 'fair within a fair'.
Long regarded by casual buyers as secondary to painting or sculpture, fine art photography is undergoing a major market resurgence. Photo Sydney highlights photographic media as a dynamic, highly collectable art form, using the fair environment to educate new and seasoned collectors on editioning, artist's proofs, and market dynamics.
The 2026 Photo Sydney sector features a strong mix of specialised galleries, non-profit institutions, and solo artist presentations. Returning mainstays like Blender Gallery – known for its music and pop culture archives – appear alongside dedicated artist booths and collective platforms such as Head On Photo Festival, photo access, and Tiliqua Tiliqua.
