Peak Design expands tripod line with three new models
Peak Design has announced three new additions to its tripod range: the Pro Tripod, Pro Tall Tripod, and Pro Lite Tripod.
The new Pro Tripods were developed in collaboration with adventure photographer and Emmy-winning filmmaker Jimmy Chin, and according to PD, Prototypes were tested during Chin’s travels to multiple locations worldwide.
At the same time, earlier this year, the Pro Tripod line raised $4.6 million ($7 million AUD) on Kickstarter prior to its wider release.
Peak Design Pro Tripod + Pro Tall
The Peak Design Pro Tripod is designed for professional use, providing the strength and stability to carry heavy cameras and lenses while remaining compact enough for travel. It's built on the 'architecture' of Peak Design’s original Travel Tripod, but scaled-up to offer significantly greater stiffness and deploy height.
It includes features such as fluid panning, video support, fully CNC-machined aluminum hardware, and refinements to every lever, knob, and touchpoint.
The Pro is available in one of two variants - the Pro deploys to 168.4 centimeters, and the Pro Tall deploys to 197.4 centimeters. The Pro and Pro Tall models have weight capacities of 18kg, and weigh 1.9kg and 2kg, respectively.
The Pro Tripod retails for $1,599, and the Pro Tall for $1,799.
Pro Lite Tripod
Slightly smaller than the Peak Design Pro Tripod yet considerably more stable than the Peak Design Travel Tripod, the Pro Lite Tripod is described as the ultimate balance between pro-level performance and go-anywhere packability.
Pro Lite has the exact same architecture, ball head, materials, and features of Pro Tripod, but with more compact legs for improved portability. It supports 16 kilograms of weight and weighs 1.7kg.
It retails for $1,450.
The tripods are also compatible with the Tilt Mod accessory (sold separately, $299), which converts the Pro Tripod into a fluid pan-and-tilt video tripod.
This allows users to switch between photography and video without carrying multiple tripods or a separate video head. The optional Pro Leveling Base ($219) permits use of professional video heads or gimbals with the tripod’s carbon legs.
