Nikon Surf Photo and Video of the Year Award 2021 – winners announced

Nikon Australia has recently announced the winners of the annual Nikon Surf Photo and Video of the Year Awards. Tasmanian photographer Stu Gibson was named winner of the 2021 Surf Photo of the Year Award, while Sydney-based videographer Spencer Frost’s short film, A Corner of the Earth, took out the 2021 Surf Video of the Year Award. As part of their prize, both take home a Nikon Z 6II and NIKKOR Z 24 – 70 f/4 S lens. Other finalists of Nikon Surf Video of the Year Award included Tom Jennings (SPIRIT, Starring Jay Davies) and Andrew Kaineder (FIRST NAME IN THE WATER | RUSS BIERKE | 90).

Now in its 9th year, the judging panel comprised 13 high-profile individuals within the surfing industry, including seven-time World Surfing Champion and Nikon Brand Ambassador Stephanie Gilmore. Judging criteria to select the best surfing photos and videos were based around innovation and creativity, dramatic effect and sensory impact, and uniqueness.

Chris Mater, CEO of Surfing Australia stated: “Each year, we look forward to hosting such an esteemed event, where we recognise the outstanding achievements of the Australian surfing community and the creatives behind the lens who capture the action.”
