Neewer has announced the oddly boxed shaped Q6 600W battery powered outdoor strobe which is compatible with TTL systems from Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Fujifilm. This 3kg monolight / monobloc delivers 600Ws of power through a quartz flash tube and maintains a steady colour temperature of 5700K with only minor variation (±100K). Power output can be fine-tuned in precise 0.1-stop increments, ranging from 1/512 up to full power.
It can also be operated via a smartphone app, which allows users to adjust flash modes, menu settings, and update firmware without needing to interact directly with the unit. The light features an updated user interface and two TFT colour screens, making it easier to manage multiple light groups, especially in more complex or distant shooting setups.
It supports several flash modes, including TTL, manual, and multi (stroboscopic). Additional functions include exposure compensation, front and rear curtain sync, burst mode, and time-lapse shooting. In stroboscopic mode, the flash can fire up to 100 times per second.
Wireless control is available through NEEWER’s 2.4GHz Q system, which works with QZ and QPRO series triggers (sold separately). The system supports five groups and 32 channels, with a working range of up to 100 meters. A masking function allows for separate exposure of subjects and backgrounds, and a 3.5mm sync port offers an alternative triggering option.
The included 28.8V/3000mAh lithium battery delivers around 400 full-power flashes per charge, with recycling times between 0.01 and 0.9 seconds. The Q6 also supports high-speed sync up to 1/8000s and can produce short flash durations for capturing fast motion.
A built-in 30W bi-colour LED modelling lamp provides adjustable colour temperatures from 2700K to 6500K, useful for previewing lighting or for use in video. The Bowens mount allows compatibility with a wide range of commonly used light modifiers.
No pricing has been mentioned for Australia, though it is available for pre-order in the US for $499 – which equates to around $775 (+GST). Shipping could be available here later in the month of May.
