Canon Australia has announced the $399 RF 75-300mm f/4-5.6, a telephoto zoom lens designed for entry-level users of the EOS R System. The lens is aimed at those starting out in nature and sports photography.
It is considerably cheaper than the $17,499 RF 100-300mm f/2.8L IS USM lens.
Interestingly, it seems like it is a direct copy of the EF-mount 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III (which is still currently on sale for $299), dating from April 1999.
The RF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 covers a focal range suited to capturing distant subjects, allowing users to photograph wildlife or sports events. 300mm is superior to a 200mm lens for field sports in that you can get great facial expressions and details from 'the other side of the field'. Surprisingly, telephotos also can be great for landscape photography.
The lens is compatible with Canon’s RF mount and provides an equivalent focal length of 120-480mm when used with APS-C bodies such as the EOS R100 or R7.
At the 300mm end, the lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 1.5 metres. The zoom ring travels through the full range with a quarter turn.

But overall, the 75-300mm zoom range is great for shooting outdoor sports such as football, rugby, hockey etc.

The lens weighs approximately 507 grams and measures 146.1mm when retracted. It includes Canon’s Super Spectra coating to help reduce ghosting and flare.
The lens is scheduled to be available in Australia sometime in May with an RRP of $399.
You can read more about the lens on the Canon Australia website.
