The celebration of the world's best photojournalism is set to hit Australian shores later this month.
From 24 May until 6 July, the State Library of NSW will display a selection of the winning images from World Press Photo 2025.
The competition recently announced an image by Gazan photographer Samar Abu Elouf as Press Photo of the Year.
Her image shows a young Palestinian boy who lost both arms in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City.
“One of the most difficult things Mahmoud’s mother explained to me was how, when Mahmoud first came to the realization that his arms were amputated, the first sentence he said to her was, ‘How will I be able to hug you?’” Abu Elouf said when speaking about the image.
The image, and a selection of other winners in the annual competition, will be exhibited worldwide as part of World Press Photo’s annual traveling exhibition.
We also published a gallery of many of the finalists earlier this year, which you can see here.
The State Library is located at 1 Shakespeare Place, Sydney, NSW, 2000. You can find out more here.
