Sabrent 16TB Rocket XTRM-Q SSD

If you’ve ever run out of mobile storage while on the go, the latest offering from Sabrent is about to make all your dreams come true, if you’re happy to part with an impressive amount of cash for the convenience.

The Rocket XTRM-Q is a 16 terabyte Thunderbolt and USB-C external SSD and can be yours for around US$2,899. The unit houses two 8TB (M.2 NVe) drives that can be configured as RAID 0, Raid 1, or JBOD. When running as RAID 0, speeds of up to 2,500 MB/s should be possible. A speed test in the video below shows write speeds of up to 2,752.6 MB/s and read speeds of up to 2,178.1 MB/s in a RAID 0 configuration, utilising the full capacity of the drive. With a RAID 1 configuration, which offers data redundancy and 8TB storage, speeds drop to 1,359.9 MB/s (write) and 2,203.5 MB/s (read).

The drive will require external power to operate, so if you’re planning on shelling out the big bucks for this beast, that’s definitely worth keeping in mind.
