2015 Australian Professional Photography Awards: Winners Announced

Victorian portrait photographer John Ansell is the 2015 Australian Professional Photographer of the Year.

Ansell's set of four images chronicling Australia’s history earned him the Australian Institute of Professional Photography's (AIPP) $10,000 grand prize as well as the 2015 AIPP Australian Portrait Photographer of the Year award.

“Winning this award is the most incredible accolade of my career. I’ve been a member of AIPP for 26 years and I’m proud to have grown and developed my passion to achieve the top honour,” Ansell said.

“At the APPA awards, your fellow photographers aren’t your competitors, they are your source of inspiration and what encourages me to push boundaries every year to try something new.”

Now in its 39th year, the AIPP APPAs attracted 648 entrants who submitted a collective 2434 images for judging.

The judging over the three day event was conducted by recognised Australian photographers Darren Jew, Mike Langford and Jackie Ranken.

The 2015 Canon AIPP APPA Awards also recognised photographers Andrew Campbell and Mike Langford who reached the coveted rank of AIPP APPA ‘Grand Masters’.
