Tetiana Matsypura, Abandoned Childhood. School #1. (Documentary/Photojournalism (ATEP 2017))

I used to live in Wunsdorf, Germany. 1988-1992. Back then it was GDR or Eastern Germany under the "protection" of Soviet army. This town was very important back in those days - Central Command of the entire Western Group of Forces of Soviet Army was stationed here. My happiest and the best memories of childhood are associated with this place, the place that locals used to call "Forbidden City". Most of the town was rebuilt and people moved back, but some of the historical places like School #1 are still untouched since the soviets left the town, frozen in time or to say more accurately are being slowly destroyed by time. It's hard to describe my feelings and emotions when I finally got to see my school. I still remember my first day of school. How big the building was in my mind. And now... Well, now it's just abandoned...
