Lecia S3 (64 megapixel medium format DSLR) due early 2019

Big news from Leica Camera at Photokina 2018, with not only the announcement of the L-Mount Alliance, but the news of a forthcoming successor to Lecia’s S2 which was announced 10 years ago at Photokina 2008. The new Leica S3 medium format DSLR will feature a 64-megapixel ProFormat sensor, up from the 37.5 megapixels offered by its predecessor.

Not much has been revealed by the German manufacturer yet, but those attending Photokina this year will be able to see a prototype of the S3. Leica will nevertheless be bucking the trend in retaining an optical viewfinder for the camera. You should also expect to be able to use the full sensor size when capturing 4k video. In line with the S2, lens adaptors will allow you to also use Hasselblad and Pentax medium-format lenses on the S3.

If you think the S3 has your name all over it, you might want to show your piggy bank a little more attention than you might have recently.
