The latest addition to the Fujifilm X Series of mirrorless digital cameras is the newly announced Fujifilm X-T5 which supersedes it processor, the X-T4. The camera sports a back-illuminated 40.2-megapixel X-TransCMOS 5 HR sensor (up from 26 megapixels), the high-speed image processing engine and the X-Processor 5, which promises improved image quality, autofocus and video.

The X-T5 features 5-axis in-body image stabilisation providing up to an additional 7.0 stops of latitude. It is also slighter lighter than the previous model, weighing in at 557g.

In terms of autofocus, the camera is able to detect animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, planes, and trains. The new sensor has a greater number of phase detection pixels than the previous model, which also greatly assists autofocus performance.

Like other cameras in the series, the X-T5 has a centre viewfinder style and dial operation design, although the 1.84-million-dot three-way tilting LCD screen is a new addition, making it more comfortable to shoot in vertical position or at waist level. It has a 3.69-million-dot EVF along with 0.8x magnification. The new viewfinder has improved suppression of parallax and distortion.

In term of video, the X-T5 can record 10-bit 4:2:2 video at 6.2K/30P. The 4K HQ mode uses 6.2K over-sampling. When combined with an Atomos HDMI device, the RAW video output from the X-T5 can be recorded as 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW at frame sizes up to 6.2K and frame rates up to 29.97fps.

The Pixel Shift Multi-Shot function effectively quadruples image resolution and allows the camera to shoot 20 frames with a single click of the shutter. When processed with the Pixel Shift Combiner software, a 160-megapixel image can be produced.

The X-T5 supports the HEIF image format, which delivers 10-bit image quality in files up to 30% smaller than standard JPEGs straight out of camera

The optional MHG-XT5 hand grip significantly improves one’s ability to hand-hold the camera when a large-aperture lens is mounted, and the hand grip does not have to be removed to change a battery or SD card.

The X-T5 is available for $3,199 (body only) or for $3,949 for body and XF18-55mmf/2.8-4 R LM OIS lens.
