Barbara Brown began her journey as a photographer while studying physics at the University of Tasmania. It wasn’t until retirement from her professional career as an environmental advisor that she made a conscious choice to seek out photographic workshops, seminars, and mentoring to expand her knowledge and techniques. She uses the shapes, geometry, colours, and textures that can be found in the world around her to create boldly graphical images that emphasise elements of detail, rather than the whole landscape of a place. Brown has an affinity for man-made subjects which are typically designed with geometry in mind. She finds herself drawn to the different perspectives provided by aerial photography, especially the rhythmic patterns produced by altered landscapes, such as industrial residue areas and modified salt lakes.
