Getty Images US$10,000 Editorial Grants call for applications

Applications for Getty Images’ 2017 Grants for Editorial Photography programme are now being accepted. With a total of five prizes of US$10,000 up for grabs, winners will be announced in September at Visa pour l’Image in Perpignan. The grant is intended to provide winners with the funding and freedom to pursue projects of personal and journalistic significance. Recipients also have the option to have Getty Images' editorial guidance throughout your project

Launched in 2004, the grant supports independent photojournalists around the world by providing the creative freedom and collaborative editorial support necessary to pursue work that is personally important to them and which they would otherwise not have the time or resources to address. Getty says that their dedication to excellence in photojournalism means that they understand that creating and managing in-depth photography assignments requires time, freedom, support, and considerable resources.

Applicants will be reviewed by the following distinguished judging panel:

  • Alex Gabriner, International Photo Editor at Time Magazine
  • Chelsea Matiash, Senior Photo Editor at The Intercept
  • Thomas Simonetti, Washington Post Photo Editor
  • Damon Winter, photographer for New York Times
  • Jean-Francois LeRoy, Director General and Founder Visa Pour l’Image

Last year’s programme saw Getty Images receive more than 450 applications from 75 countries. The winning projects examined a range of thought-provoking and moving issues; from refugees in the Middle East to the effects of climate change is Alaska.
