About the work

Miles from Anywhere explores the concept of being alone, examining both the physical and emotional triggers and responses. Being alone can be luxuriously self-indulgent whereas, its polar opposite, loneliness brings to mind the debilitating state of disconnection and even heartbreak despite not necessarily being alone.

The images create an environment where the viewer steps into an experience bringing along their own preconceptions, memories of and attitudes to being alone. It is akin to stepping onto a stage where the actors have exited, but clearly something is going on. What's more, something is about to happen, but exactly what is not entirely clear. The space is the viewer’s to become the actor and storyteller. The images capture the viewer’s imagination drawing them in to a whimsical, quirky world of make-believe that becomes totally believable.
