$35,000 W. Eugene Smith Grant - call for submissions

The W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund is awarding one photographer $35,000 to tell a story of compassion and of the human experience. An additional $5,000 in fellowship money will be dispersed, at the discretion of the jury, to one or more finalists deemed worthy of special recognition.

The W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography is presented annually to a photographer whose past work and proposed project follow the tradition of W. Eugene Smith and the dedicated compassion he exhibited during his 45-year career as a photographic essayist.

Students may submit projects for just $1 to be considered for the $4,000 grant to support work that catalses social change. Non-photographers may apply for the Howard Chapnick Grant, a $5,000 award for those in fields ancillary to photojournalism, such as editing research, education and management.
